What I ACTUALLY Packed for Maui 2025! (SHOCKING!)

Planning a Hawaiian getaway? Discover my essential packing list from a recent 2-week Maui adventure! Get inspired and pack perfectly for your trip!

Just back from an amazing two-week Maui escape! It’s easily one of my top destinations. This was my ninth visit, and I’ve finally nailed down the perfect travel wardrobe. I spent ages (okay, maybe days!) carefully planning what to pack. My goal? To create outfits that perfectly capture Hawaii’s tropical spirit.

My vacation wardrobe needed to be stylish, comfortable, and adaptable. I wore everything I packed, which was a huge win! I hate bringing clothes I never use. Plus, I felt amazing in every outfit.

I’m thrilled to reveal my travel essentials! (Links to products and alternatives included.) Discover why each item earned a spot in my bag.

Poplin Maxi Skirt and Top Set

My packing started with a Dynamite poplin maxi skirt and top set. This specific set is from a past season, and the skirt isn’t currently sold. However, the Bubble Hem Top is still available! I’ve also included some excellent alternatives below for 2025:

  • MIKOH Delia Skirt and Opihi Top
  • Free People Cooler in Capri Set
  • Alexis Napoli Skirt and Trisha Top (pricier, but so stunning if you have the budget!)
  • Poplin, a light and airy fabric, is perfect for Hawaii’s warm climate. I chose this outfit for a romantic dinner at the Four Seasons in Wailea with my husband. (Ferraro’s is amazing!) I especially liked that I could mix and match the skirt and top.

    Beach Cover-Ups

Let’s move on to my beach cover-ups. Here’s what I included in my 2025 packing list:

  • Frankie Shop Ryker Shirt in Blue Stripe (no longer available, here are two great alternatives: Will Oversized Shirt from Reformation and Haven Shirt from Cotton On)
  • Artizia Sail Shirt in White (one of my all-time beach faves with the matching shorts)
  • Zulu & Zephyr Cotton Swirl Dress (seriously stunning – I wore this to dinner too!)
  • Heading to the beach or pool? You need a cover-up that’s both functional and chic. My cover-ups are incredibly versatile. They shield me from the sun’s rays when I’m not in the water. They also provide extra coverage when I want it. Plus, they can easily double as a stylish layer for lunch or a relaxed evening meal.

    Cotton Sweater

Evenings in beautiful Hawaii can sometimes be breezy. That’s why I brought this striped Quince cotton sweater. It was also perfect for our whale-watching trip. (I highly recommend Sail Trilogy) The ocean air can be cool and windy!

Depending on when you visit Hawaii, expect potentially cloudier and cooler weather. Bringing an extra layer is always wise. For a lighter choice, consider this Cotton Linen Oversized sweater. It’s a great alternative!

    Knit Cardigan

Similar to my favorite sweater, the Jenni Kayne Cocoon cardigan is a must-have for chilly evenings. I’m a big fan of layering, and this cardigan is perfect. It’s light enough for daytime wear but chic enough for dinner.I enjoy casually draping it over my shoulders for a relaxed look.

If the Jenni Kayne style exceeds your budget, Quince offers a remarkably similar, budget-friendly alternative. Check it out!

    Swimsuits

Here in Maui I’m always in the ocean! Swimsuits are a must-have. I brought a few, but I’m showing just two here. For shorter trips in 2025 two swimsuits might be all you need.

Here’s a look at my swimsuit collection for this trip:

  • Everyday Sunday Cut-Out One Piece
  • Zulu & Zephyr Harness Top (with a pair of ribbed black bottoms I already had) – very similar to this L*Space swimsuit
  • Toteme Monogram Swimsuit
  • An older Aerie suit (very similar to this Andie swimsuit)
  • Sun Dress

I instantly fell in love with this Revive Dress from Aritzia and knew it was perfect for my Maui trip. The bodice features a comfortable, stretchy fabric that offers great support (bye-bye bra!). The skirt is made of a breezy, lightweight poplin material.

This outfit was ideal for our family beach photos! I especially appreciate the striking black and off-white combination. It’s also available in different colors, and I’ve included more choices above for you to explore.

    Poplin Shorts

My go-to striped poplin shorts from Zara, known for their comfort and style, are no longer sold. Here are some excellent replacements I’ve found for 2025:

  • Madewell Striped Poplin Shorts
  • Mango Stripe Poplin Shorts
  • Reformation Austin Poplin Shorts (slightly dressier vibe)
  • Poplin shorts are ideal for beach days or casual outings. Plus, the blue stripe perfectly complements my Frankie Shop cover-up! These are a must-have for 2025.

    White Cotton Shorts

I paired my Sail Shirt with white cotton gauze shorts. My current pair is an older Jenni Kayne design. However, these Sail Shorts are a very close match and readily available in 2025.

I absolutely adored  this while relaxing by the pool over my bathing suit. It also pairs wonderfully with a basic black tank top or a striped cover-up, as well.

    Black Skort

This Lululemon Align black skort proved invaluable during my Maui adventure. I practically lived in it!

This was my go-to choice for effortless style and comfort. Its black hue offered amazing versatility, perfect for daytime adventures or relaxed evenings.

    Tank Tops

For ultimate versatility, neutral tank tops are essential for travel in 2025. I rely on these tanks for a relaxed and chic style. They’re perfect for long, sunny days exploring any destination. Here are the ones I packed for my trip:

  • Citizens of Humanity One-Shoulder Tank (older and no longer available but here’s a great affordable alternative from Free People)
  • Twik Finely Ribbed Cami’s in Black and White (these are so soft and comfortable!)
  • Aritzia Scoop Tank in Admiral/White stripe
  • Knit Vest Top

This incredibly soft and light stretchy Basque Sweater Vest from Aritzia became a key layering item in my 2024 wardrobe. It paired perfectly with relaxed beach pants, my Lululemon skort, or even as a stylish cover-up over swimwear.

I predict I’ll buy this top in multiple colors. It’s incredibly cute and comfy!

    Beach Pants

Regarding beach pants, these H&M jersey pants were my go-to choice! They’re ideal over a swimsuit, for relaxing, or even for a more dressed-up look. These comfortable, stretchy pants were simply perfect!

I adore the comfy, loose fit and the gentle material. It kept me feeling fresh and at ease during my numerous days exploring Maui. Updated for 2025!

    White Pants

H&M offers these white pointelle jersey pants. These white pointelle jersey pants are perfect for relaxing, poolside enjoyment, or even bedtime. For a more refined style, consider white linen pants. They transition seamlessly from the beach to a dinner outing.

    Black Linen Maxi Skirt

Linen remains a must-have for warm climates. My black linen maxi skirt, a Gap find, proves it. It’s light, airy, and stylish – ideal for a Hawaiian getaway. This exact style is older, so I’ve included similar options below:

  • Reformation Layla Linen Skirt
  • Aritzia Zen Linen Skirt
  • Onia Air Linen Wrap Skirt
  • Athletic Set

When I needed a workout, I had my athletic gear ready. Think early walks by the sea or quick exercise routines. This navy blue Lululemon Align Legging + Align Tank set was ideal for 2025’s active lifestyle.

    Pool Slides

For any vacation near water, my Lululemon Restfeel pool slides are essential. They offer exceptional comfort and effortless wear, ideal for poolside lounging or beach visits. Their minimalist style complements nearly every outfit, providing the perfect touch of casual elegance for all my aquatic explorations in 2025.

    Heeled Sandals

Switching from casual to dressy? My Harley heeled sandals from Poppy Barley were perfect. I wore them on a date and loved how they elevated a relaxed outfit. My exact Poppy Barley style is older, so here are some excellent modern alternatives:

  • Quince Italian Leather Heels
  • Sam Edelman Slingback Kitten Heel Sandals
  • Sneakers

Discovering Hawaii often involves extensive walking. Think scenic trails and delightful town explorations (Paia is a must-see!). Therefore, my sneakers are a vital travel companion. They provide the necessary support and comfort for lengthy morning strolls. Plus, they’re perfect for a quick jog if I’m energized.

I brought my New Balance 530s on this adventure. The moonbeam/sea salt color is fantastic. It’s a great neutral shade and doesn’t show dirt easily.

    Black Sandals

Looking for something stylish but comfy? I packed these chunky black thong sandals from Zara. They work well for daytime or evening. They easily transition from casual to chic. This exact style is older, so I’ve included similar options below:

  • Reformation Jessie Sandals
  • Alohas Liora Sandals
  • Tory Burch Mellow Sandals
  • Beach Bag

A Hawaiian escape isn’t complete without the perfect beach bag. My Rio Tote from Anine Bing remains a top travel pick in 2025. It easily holds towels, books, sunscreen, spare clothes, and treats. Its design handles sand and saltwater while maintaining a stylish look. It’s truly a vacation essential.

The Rio Tote is a worthwhile investment. I’ve also included some budget-friendly alternatives above for your consideration.

    Raffia Tote

For evenings out or shopping trips, I chose to bring my Loewe Small Square Basket Bag. It’s a worthwhile investment. I appreciate how it effortlessly enhanced my simple, neutral holiday outfits.

This vintage Loewe bag, particularly in white, is now exclusively available through secondhand markets. However, a strikingly similar Loewe design is currently in stock here. For more affordable options, check out the alternatives I’ve linked above.

    Sun Hat

To be honest, I forgot to pack a sun hat. I planned to buy one, but time slipped away, and I left without it—and I really regretted it! I’m still recommending a sun hat because it’s a must-have item! Look for a packable hat that will keep its shape in your luggage.

    Discover excellent choices below:

  • Brixton Packable Sun Hat
  • Lyons Packable Sun Hat
  • Helen Kaminski Packable Visor (a great option if you wear your hair up a lot)
  • Packable Bucket Hat
  • Cotton Cap

When I felt athletic or needed beach sun protection, my Anine Bing Jeremy hat was my top choice. (I have five in various colors!) It’s lightweight, breathable, and ideal for shielding from the sun during outdoor fun in 2025.

    Jewelry & Sunnies

Every great look needs some shine! I’ve hand-picked my favorite jewelry and sunglasses for this trip. Here’s a peek at what’s inside my bag:

  • Celine Triomphe Oval Sunglasses (affordable alternative here)
  • Ray-Ban Clubmaster Sunglasses
  • Jenny Bird Doune Earrings (in gold and silver)
  • Jenny Bird Andi Slim Chain & Matching Bracelet
  • Mejuri Pendant (old, similar option
  • Amazon Hoops (perfect cheap option for the beach and water)
  • Buccerello Vanessa Necklace
  • Numbering Pearl Necklace (I removed the gold bow for a more classic look)
